Programmes of Library training sessions are currently underway, and workshops will run throughout the academic year. If you want to find out more, check out the web links below. You can even book your place online!
These sessions cover a range of Library and information skills including literature searching and the use of specific databases e.g. Compendex. There’s also the opportunity to learn more about how to reference your work correctly and avoid plagiarism.

Hopefully you’ve now settled into the new semester – it’s always a busy time, with lots to get used to. Have you noticed that there have been a few changes on Level 3 of the Library over the summer period? As well as refurbished carpets and furniture, we’ve got lots of shiny new thin client PCs, and improved work spaces with more power points for your laptops and other gadgets. We really hope that this will make working on Level 3 a more enjoyable and easier experience for you all. Let us know if you have any feedback!
Also to note, some changes in staffing on Level 3 for the next six months. Chris Roberts, who’s been the Mechanical Engineering Subject Librarian for the past few years, is currently away from Level 3, covering a colleague’s maternity leave. (Chris is actually looking after Opus, the University’s institutional repository!) During this time Hilary Tacey will be looking after the Mechanical Engineering side of things, whilst Hannah South remains as Faculty Librarian and Subject Librarian for Architecture and Civil Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering , and Chemical Engineering. We’re also happy to welcome Claudia Bohmer as our Information Librarian for the next few months. Don’t worry if you’re not sure who to contact – we’re all happy to help! Our offices are at the back of Level 3, or you can contact us by email or phone.
